After the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a delayed withdrawal of the monsoon on Wednesday, heavy rains are expected to lash several parts of the country for the next few days. Conditions are likely to become favourable for withdrawal of monsoon from some more parts of northwest India towards the end of the week. The withdraw from Central India is likely to take plaace from September 29- October 5. Delhi & NCR Meanwhie, the IMD has sounded a yellow alert of moderate to heavy rains in Delhi on Friday. The weather department warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasional reduction in visibility, disruption in traffic, and possibilities of damage to the vulnerable structure. Over the last one year, the Tamil Nadu Forest department has successfully reunited three elephant calves that got separated from their herds in the Nilgiris district. Officials and staff who worked on these “complicated” operations said multiple factors dictated whether these efforts to reunite the lost calves were successful. Also, these efforts were helping them to better understand elephant behaviour and their complex social structures. In October 2021, a young calf, that got stuck inside an illegal gold mine in Devala, was rescued by the staff , who walked with the animal to find the herd from which it got separated. This year, a calf that got separated from its mother when the Sigurhalla river was in spate due to heavy rains was reunited after a mammoth, three-day effort by the Forest department, while earlier this week, another calf was reunited with its mother in the Gudalur division. India is unlikely to see a repeat of the 2021 energy crisis this festive season as coal-fired power stations across the country have comfortable levels of the fuel stock to meet electricity demand of the world's fastest expanding major economy. Learning lessons from the October 2021 energy crisis , when power stations were put on outage alert, due to coal stocks falling to the lowest level in years, the Ministries of coal and power as well as railways this year have worked out a plan to ensure adequate fuel stocks at electricity generating units, officials said. With coal used to produce almost 70% of electricity, officials are confident that the 2021 crisis will not be repeated this festive season that kicks in a week's time. Electricity demand in India has soared with a rebound in industrial activity after easing of pandemic-related curbs.
