COVID-19 test positivity rate in the State has slightly come down during the week (July 28-August 3) compared to the previous weeks. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, the positivity rate in the districts was not more than 21% in the said week. The test positivity rate in the erstwhile Krishna district was 20.70%, the highest among the districts. It was 19.52% in Chittoor, 18.35% in Kadapa, 17.97% in Visakhapatnam, 16.85% in Guntur, 14.54% in West Godavari, 11.44% in Vizianagaram and 11.32% in Anantapur. In Kurnool, Prakasam, Nellore and Srikakulam the positivity rate was between 5% and 10% and in East Godavari it was only 4.84%. Cordelia Cruise, which has turned into a Covid-19 hotspot after as many as 66 of the over 2,000 people on board tested positive for the infection, on Tuesday evening arrived in Mumbai following which screening of passengers and crew members is being done by a medical team of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The cruise, where the NCB busted a high-profile rave party in October last year, was carrying hordes of New Year revellers. People were found infected after a medical team in PPE kits boarded the ship to conduct RT-PCR tests of the passengers and crew members. Officials had instructed that no one should disembark from the ship before the result of the RT-PCR test was declared. The liner was anchored close to the Mormugao Port cruise terminal in Goa immediately. Fast forward to this month, however, and the number of cases has suddenly soared, prompting a lockdown in the city of Sanya and leaving tens of thousands of tourists like Yang stuck on the island. Amid a rise in coronavirus infections in some parts of the country, the central government has asked Delhi and six states to ensure adequate testing, promote Covid-appropriate behaviour and increase the pace of vaccination to contain the surge.
