When you want to get Windows on Apple, you have two choice: a virtual desktop or a huge, do-it-yourself installation of the Windows logo. The former works best on Apple desktops and laptops; the latter, Apple retail stores under construction.
A group of German pranksters posed as construction workers this past week in a grand effort to bring a little bit of Windows branding into the Apple experience. Their target? An Apple retail store outside of Hamburg, Germany that’s currently being built. Using a simple ladder, the pranksters scaled the Apple store’s all-black façade and mounted a giant Windows logo to the side of the building.
The logo itself is seems to be easily removed, and Apple workers were doing just that come Friday morning in Germany. And the last laugh appears to be on Microsoft (or the pranksters) on this one: The vandals’ giant Windows logo, while pretty, flip-flopped the actual colors in the Windows logo. The blue and green boxes should have been reversed.
The Hamburg Apple store is expected to officially open by the end of September, and it will be Hamburg’s second Apple retail presence. The prank itself occurred during an ironic bit of timing, if nothing else: Fluctuations in the stock market Friday resulted in Apple’s market value finally exceeding the combined market values of both Microsoft and Intel to the tune of $317.60 billion to $316.8 billion.
Perhaps instead of a giant Windows logo, the pranksters should have stuck a giant image of a money bag to the side of the Apple store’s black walls.
